DescriptionThe 2026 CUPEST Academic Annual Conference will be held in Manchester, UK, from October 19th to October 21st, 2026, co-hosted by Hunan Normal University and the University of Lancashire and in association with the International Physical Literacy Association (IPLA) and the International Federation of Physical Education and Sport (FIEPS). The theme of the conference is to explore the Three Worlds of Physical Literacy in Action.

Additional ItemsMore InformationCurrently, the world is facing many common challenges such as the physical and economic cost of "sedentary lifestyles", concern over “social and emotional wellbeing” and the worrying "younger onset of chronic diseases". The value of physical education and sports in many countries has shifted from being "competitive performance-oriented" to a more "holistic human development-oriented" approach. This demand places Physical Literacy as a unifying concept and important mechanism to address current human development and public health issues across the globe. The event will include Keynote speakers from each of the ‘Three Worlds’ representing many of the most influential associations and promotors of Physical Literacy in Action. The conference welcomes papers and presentations that adopt different conceptualisations of Physical Literacy and delegates willing to debate the merits and challenges present in all our work. Please be aware that throughout the event there will be official event photography/filming taking place for marketing and promotional purposes.
